Injured skydiver saved in mid-air by fellow jumper

A German free fall jumper who could not pull her parachute ripcord at 14,000 feet was miraculously saved in mid-air by another skydiver, The Sun reported Tuesday.

Katharina Wagner jumped more than 1,000 times from aircraft all over Germany before Sunday's drama.

The 24-year-old was with three friends aboard an Antonov AN 28 plane that took off from an airfield in northern Germany at midday (local time).

As she leaped from the aircraft a sudden gust of wind slammed her into the fuselage.

She hurt her shoulder so badly that she could not use her arm to pull the release cord on her parachute.

A member of the ground staff said: "What happened next was like something out of an action film."

Amazingly, the female skydiver who jumped simultaneously from the doorway saw what happened and went after her.

In a series of what police spokesman Thomas Kriebitzsch called "clever maneuvers," she got alongside Wagner and managed to pull the release cord for her.

"Nevertheless, Katharina was unable to steer the parachute and hit a lamppost before sprawling on a main road," he said.

Wagner is now being treated in hospital for a broken arm and injuries to both legs.

She is expected to make a full recovery, but doctors said she had not decided yet whether to resume her hobby.
