Second NYC Triathlon competitor dies

A woman who was pulled from the water during the swimming portion of the Nautica New York City Triathlon died Monday, the New York Daily News reported.

The 40-year-old woman, whose identity was not released, died at 4:43 a.m. Monday, a spokesman for Roosevelt Hospital said.

Her death was the second casualty of the Sunday event, following the death of a man who was pulled from the water at the same time.

The woman and a man identified as 64-year-old Michael Kudryk were pulled from the water around 8:00am Sunday.

Both victims were taken to Roosevelt Hospital suffering cardiac arrest. Kudryk was pronounced dead at the hospital and the woman was listed in critical condition.

It is not the first time someone has died during the race. In 2008, an Argentinian man died after being pulled from the Hudson during the swimming portion, the Daily News reported.
