ANDORRA LA VELLA, Andorra (AP) - Vagif Javadov scored a second-half equalizer Wednesday to help Azerbaijan hold Russia to a 1-1 draw in their final World Cup qualifier.

Andrei Arshavin beat Kamran Aghayev from close range to give Russia the lead in the 13 minute.

Javadov equalized in the 53rd, firing home a low drive from 26 meters (yards). Igor Akinfeev dived to his right but missed the bouncing ball.

Russia had already clinched second place in Group 4 behind Germany, and will enter the playoffs for a spot in next year's tournament. Russia finished with 22 points, with Germany on 26.

Azerbaijan finished next-to-last with five points.

With nothing at stake in the match, Russia coach Guus Hiddink fielded an experimental lineup with only four of his usual starters.

Russia was in control in the first half and Arshavin scored after Aghayev failed to block Alan Dzagoyev's low shot from just inside the box.

Javadov had his first scoring chance late in the first half when he forced Akinfeev into a stunning save from his 25-meter drive.

Rail Malikov fouled Dzagoyev in the box in the 80th minute, but Sergei Ignashevich's weak low shot from the penalty spot was easily saved by Aghayev.
