The finish line looms ...
Knocking Manchester United from the top spot in the FSCCR was impossible after their Champions League semifinal victory over FC Barcelona (9) and their dominance of West Ham in the Premier League to set up a final day league showdown for points with Chelsea (2) who face Bolton on Sunday. It all comes down to this between the two best clubs in England, as it will in Moscow for the Champions League final.
Russian spoilers Zenit St. Petersburg (18) shocked the world by upending Bayern Munich (5) in the UEFA Cup semfinals and landed themselves in a European cup final. There they will face the other surprise package of the tournament Glasgow Rangers (15) who held on to beat mighty Fiorentina (19) in a penalty shootout for a chance to claim Europe's second-biggest prize.
Although Bayern Munich and Real Madrid (3) won their domestic titles last weekend, the challengers for European spots have been coming on strong in La Liga and Serie A. Milan (12) put up a champion's performance in knocking off Inter (4) after the latest San Siro derby, while Villarreal (11) solidified its grip on second place in Spain at the expense of the faltering FC Barcelona — much to Frank Rijkaard's newly unemployed chagrin.
