NYON, Switzerland (AP) - UEFA rejected Partizan Belgrade's appeal against its expulsion from the UEFA Cup after its Serbian fans fought with Zrinjski's Bosnian-Croat fans during a qualifying match.

The decision Tuesday means Zrinjski will progress to the second qualifying round.

UEFA's appeals body upheld the original July decision by its control and disciplinary committee.

Twenty-eight police officers were injured, one seriously, when Partizan's supporters fought with Zrinjski's fans in a first-round qualifying match on July 19 in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Partizan, which won the first leg 6-1, was also fined 50,000 Swiss francs (€30,056; US$41,350).

The punishment was delayed due to the appeal. Partizan won the second leg 5-0 to complete an 11-1 aggregate victory.

Zrinjski will play at Macedonian club Rabotnicki on Aug. 16 in the next qualifying round and then host the second leg two weeks later.
