Lawrie Dudfield netted a brace and Hector Sam was on target as Notts County won 3-0 to end Histon's hopes of causing an FA Cup upset.

The Cambridgeshire minnows had good reason to fancy their chances after a run of just one defeat in nine games and that confidence was easy to see as they took the game to County in the early stages but their aerial bombardment failed to produce clear-cut chances.

The longer the game went on the more County began to show the form which has now brought them three wins and a draw under the new management pairing of Ian McParland and David Kevan.

They broke the deadlock three minutes after the break when a neat build-up ended with Neil MacKenzie sending Dudfield clear to net.

It was a crucial moment after 72 minutes when Kevin Pilkington made his one real save of the day to deny Antonio Murray and within 60 seconds County stretched their lead as Dudfield cleverly worked an opening for substitute Sam who was allowed time to pick his spot.

The third goal came two minutes from time when a back pass from Matt Langston fell short and Dudfield nipped in ahead of goalkeeper Danny Naisbitt to score.
