The Cancun club was forced to come from behind after veteran Costa Rica international midfielder Walter Centeno put Saprissa ahead in the 25th minute.

Argentine midfielder Gabriel Pereyra equalized for Atlante in the 39th minute.

Gradually the Mexicans began to dominate the game and in the 71st, Mauricio Romero delivered a cross to Christian Bermudez, who scored what proved the winner.

The return leg will be on March 20. The victor will meet either Houston Dynamo of the United States or Guatemala's Municipal in the tournament's semifinals.
