Saprissa defeats Atlante 3-0, advances to semifinals

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica (AP) - Costa Rica's Saprissa defeated Mexico's Atlante squad 3-0 on two own goals Thursday to advance to the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Atlante had won the first leg of the matchup 2-1, but Saprissa compiled a 4-2 aggregate victory. Saprissa will face the Houston Dynamo, who scored a 3-1 victory over CSD Municipal of Guatemala on Wednesday.

Atlante's own defenders proved the team's worst enemies in Thursday's match.

The first own goal came after just 18 minutes when Atlante's Javier Munoz sent the ball into the net while trying to block a shot by Alejandro Alpizar.

Armando Alonso scored on a long pass from Ronald Gomez at 40 minutes to up the score to 2-0, and 26 minutes later, Gerardo Castillo knocked in Atlante's second own goal while trying to block a shot by Andres Nunez.

Atlante's Jose Guerrero was sent off at 86 minutes for a rough play against Alpizar.
