ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) - Zenit St. Petersburg coach Dick Advocaat is one step away from winning his first major European title. The Dutchman will have to beat his former club to do it.

Zenit will face Glasgow Rangers in the UEFA Cup final in Manchester, England, on May 14.

"It is great that Rangers will meet us in the final," Advocaat was quoted as saying Friday by Britain's Press Association. "But beating them will not be a problem for me ... (It's) a cup final and you obviously want your team to win."

Zenit beat Bayern Munich 4-0 Thursday to win 5-1 on aggregate and Rangers advanced to the final with a penalty shootout victory over Fiorentina after two scoreless legs.

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson - whose team travels to Moscow to play Chelsea in the Champions League final on May 21 - worked with Smith at Old Trafford in the 2003-04 season.

"I'm delighted for Walter, it's fantastic for him," Ferguson said. "My phone never stopped ringing last night. They think because the game is in Manchester that you have got all the tickets."

As for Smith, the 60-year-old coach said getting to the final had taken him by surprise.

"I thought I was at the stage where European finals were well past me, so I'm delighted," Smith said. "When I see the level of commitment we showed to keep the game at 0-0, it was fantastic and I'm just delighted we've reached the final."
