Ajax beats Heerenveen 3-1 to reach playoff final

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) - Ajax beat 10-man SC Heerenveen 3-1 Monday to set up a meeting against FC Twente for a berth next season's European Champions League.

A two-leg final between the two clubs is set for May 10 and May 18.

Twente advanced by eliminating NAC Breda 8-1 on aggregate. Ajax's beat Heerenveen 5-2 on aggregate.

Ajax took the lead when Kenneth Perez converted a 45th-minute penalty awarded after goalkeeper Rob van Dijk brought down Jeffrey Sarpong. Substitute Dennis Rommedahl scored from Sarpong's cross in the 48th to extend the lead.

Perez scored a second with a left-footed shot from just inside the area in the 55th.

A defensive error allowed Danijel Pranjic to score a consolation goal for Heerenveen in the 63rd.

Heerenveen's Michael Bradley was ejected in the 39th after collecting his second yellow card.

PSV Eindhoven, this season's winner of the Dutch league, already has secured one of the Netherlands' two Champions League berth.
