VALENCIA, Spain (AP) - Midfielder David Albelda has dropped his legal appeal against Valencia to force the club to buy him out of his contract, his lawyer Francisco Guillen said Friday.

Albelda lost his legal claim of constructive dismissal in March after being axed by Valencia's previous coach Ronald Koeman three months earlier. The 30-year-old, who is under contract until 2011, wanted €60 million (US$92.75 million) from the club.

However, Albelda's circumstances changed when Koeman was fired on April 21 and he was recalled by Valencia's new coach Salvador "Voro" Gonzalez, together with fellow midfielder Miguel Angel Angulo and goalkeeper Santiago Canizares.

Albelda is now hoping to be recalled to the national team for next month's European Championship.

Albelda has been with Valencia since 1995 - except for two seasons on loan with Villarreal - and helped the team win the Spanish league in 2002 and '04 and the UEFA Cup in 2004. He played as a substitute in the 2001 Champions League final, when Valencia lost on penalties to Bayern Munich.
