The Chelsea captain is in danger of missing the May 21 Champions League final against Manchester United after he was carried from the Stamford Bridge field with an arm injury in Sunday's Premier League match against Bolton.
The 1-1 draw left Chelsea as the Premier League runner-up to Man United but, having also lost this season's League Cup final to Tottenham, Terry won't even accept the possibility that his partially dislocated elbow could rule him out of the European showpiece in Moscow.
"It popped back in before I got to hospital and I need three or four days rest, but I should be fit for Moscow, fingers crossed," Terry said.
The England defender departed Sunday's match in the ninth minute, after goalkeeper Petr Cech leaped to collect the ball and caught Terry in the arm with his knee.
Terry crashed to the ground and the crowd fell quiet as he thumped the turf in pain.
Although he was carried off and replaced by Juliano Belletti before being taken to a hospital for treatment, he didn't let that stop him from following his team's ill-fated attempt to wrest the title from United's grasp.
He rushed back from the hospital, but United's 2-0 win at Wigan meant it finished the season two points ahead of the Blues.
"I caught the second half of United's game when I got back from hospital and flicked between the two games," Terry said. "When Ryan Giggs put the second one in for United, I knew that was it."
Chelsea came close to forcing the win that would have left it trailing United only on goal difference, but badly missed Terry's commanding presence in central defense.
Bolton almost equalized in the 79th when Ashley Cole cleared off the line after a lob by Gavin McCann had hit the crossbar, and it eventually scored when Matthew Taylor forced the ball in off the inside of Cech's right heel.
The defensive weakness showed just why Chelsea will want him fit for Moscow, but manager Avram Grant is less confident than his captain of his chances.
"He's strong enough to recover, but you never know," Grant said. "We have 10 days until the final. We can take the decision then, not now.
"There is his character, but we need to see that he is fit to play. It's firstly the decision of the medical department whether he can play or not."
And Terry isn't Grant's only worry ahead of Chelsea's first Champions League final.
Defender Ricardo Carvalho missed Sunday's match because of a back injury and striker Didier Drogba, who has 15 goals this season, knocked his injured right knee with 10 minutes left against Bolton.
"Because we made all our substitutes, we could not substitute him," Grant said. "He did his best to finish the game. It doesn't look so good, but we need to wait and see."
