Bocanegra joins french club Rennes

Fulham defender Carlos Bocanegra has signed a three-year deal with Rennes.

The USA defender was not offered a new contract at Craven Cottage despite helping the club to dramatically escape relegation from the Premier League.

Cottagers manager Roy Hodgson had since decided the American was surplus to requirements and decided not to offer him a new contract.

The 29-year-old made 116 appearances in four seasons at the London club and his move to Rennes means that on-loan defeder Djimi Traore will return to his club Portsmouth.

The Ligue 1 club are also reportedly tracking Lorient's Oscar Ewolo.
