City have had their eye on the Barca star since the end of last season and are believed to have held talks with the Brazilian's representatives at least once - and since a deal seems to have been struck with Barcelona, City are now waiting to hear from the player himself.
However, reports on Thursday claimed Ronaldinho is closer to a move to AC Milan, as well as being open to the idea of a Chelsea switch - and City's patience is running short.
With Mark Hughes keen to get on with other summer transfer plans, City's executive chairman Garry Cook has admitted that they will focus their attention elsewhere if the matter seems to be dragging on indefinitely.
"We definitely don't want to be sitting waiting for a decision from Ronaldinho," he said in the Daily Mail.
"A mutual decision has to be made. We are setting our own timeline.
"We're not going to sit and wait. This is too big a football club for that."
