Wenger wants Gunners progress

Arsene Wenger is convinced Arsenal can become the Premier League's dominant force again, but may have no other option than to make more changes to his current squad.

Last season's top scorer for the Gunners Emmanuel Adebayor has made it clear through comments in the media that he expects an improved deal with the club, after Barcelona recently made a reported £30 million offer for the Togo international.

The future of Belarusian winger Alexander Hleb is also still up in the air, but should Wenger cash in on either man the Gunners will be left with gaping holes in their attack - despite a welcome injection of capital from the sales.

However, Blackburn Rovers' striker Roque Santa Cruz and Magpies hitman Obafemi Martins could be used as possible replacements, while Samir Nasri — a long-time target of Wenger's — is set to be officially announced as a Gunner in the next "few days", according to Marseille chairman Pape Diouf.

Wenger has so far made only one confirmed buy this summer — promising Welsh teenager Aaron Ramsey — but believes his current squad, as a cohesive unit, has the potential to be his best yet.

"At the end of the season I just told the players to go on holiday, forget about it for a few weeks, and be ready to come back with a new desire and new hope for next season," Wenger told the official Arsenal magazine.

"I feel the togetherness is there, the desire is there, and the quality is there. They have very good ingredients. We have done extremely well.

"We had 68 points last year, and we had 83 this season, so we made a big improvement."

Wenger added: "We just want to make another improvement next year, and if we can manage that improvement, what will follow naturally is domination."
