The AC Milan striker conceded that although the players who have stepped in to replace the classy playmaker, such as Clarence Seedorf, have performed well, no one can compare to the 27-year-old midfielder.

The 35-year-old forward said: "He is a fundamental player, indispensable. Who has played in his place has filled in really well, but there is no other like Andrea in the world. "He gives flow to the game, he decides when to slow down the move, or speed it up. With Pirlo we rediscover our guiding light."

The former Brescia and Inter player, whose only appearances this season were in the two opening defeats for the Rossoneri, is set to return immediately to the first team fold for this weekend's match against Torino due to an injury to Massimo Ambrosini.

However, the veteran hitman, who is only seven goals short of the 300 mark in his distinguished career, maintained that the San Siro outfit have the squad depth and strength to mount a serious scudetto challenge, a title he has set his heart on winning.

He added: "We are doing well in the league, but we must keep up our concentration because it is a very even contest this year.

"What I desire now is to win the title with [AC] Milan. I care so much for this club and I hope to help it reach its aim."

Moratti set for showdown

Massimo Moratti has revealed that the magic surrounding the Derby of Italy still manages to affect his nerves.

The Inter supremo admitted that the build-up to the showdown between the Nerazzurri and Juventus, as with other important matches, created an incredible atmosphere that was felt by all involved in the 90 minutes, from the fans to the players.

The oil baron said: "There is always a feeling of tension before this type of match, when you play against a classic adversary and it is felt by the players and the public."

The club president appeared nonplussed by the fact that the reigning champions top scorer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, has not yet scored against the side that brought him to Italy, encouraging the Swedish superstar to continue his current vein of form which saw him net a brace against Palermo last weekend.

He said: "What is important is that Ibra plays like he did in Palermo. He's on form, so whether it is scoring a goal or setting one up, it's important he keeps on as he is."

Amauri plays confidence trick

Amauri has declared that the confidence in the Juventus camp gives his side the edge in the clash with Inter.

The Brazilian striker is set to play in his first Derby d'Italia on Saturday and the 28-year-old has no doubts that Claudio Ranieri's men can produce a winning performance at the San Siro if they go into the clash with the right mentality.

He said: "If we go on the pitch with the same attitude as the last seven matches then we'll do well. At the moment any result does not mean anything, but at the same time it is a fundamental match — who wins can go top.

The former Palermo star, who has scored six goals in his opening 12 matches for the Bianconeri in Serie A, including the winner in the Turin derby, which started the Old Lady's run of five consecutive wins domestically, claimed that confidence was sky high in the Juve camp, also thanks to the back-to-back wins over Real Madrid in the Champions League.

He said: "Juve are having a great spell and although Inter beat Palermo in a great match and are playing at home, our last seven games, with the two wins over Real, have given us a certain boost."
