Pachuca, representing CONCACAF, appeared in trouble after goals by Mohamed Aboutrika and Flavio, but clawed its way back with second-half goals from Luis Montes and Christian Giminez before Damian Alverez sealed the victory 8 minutes into extra time.

Giminez added a late insurance goal, sending Pachuca into the semifinals Wednesday against South American champions Liga de Quito of Ecuador.

Montes began the comeback in the 47th minute by curling a free kick past goalkeeper Amir Abdelhamid, a feat repeated by Giminez in the 73rd minute to force extra time.

Alvarez scored the eventual winner by burying a loose ball from close range, and Giminez capped the comeback in the second half of extra time with a powerful shot that Abdelhamid had little chance to stop.

The tournament's next quarterfinal match pits Japan's Gamba Osaka and Australia's Adelaide United on Sunday in a rematch of the Asian Champions League Final.

Adelaide, which defeated New Zealand's Waitakere in the opening match, was blanked by Gamba 5-0 on aggregate in the continental championship. The winner of Sunday's match will meet European champions Manchester United in the semifinals.
