Chopcast: Filling out Braves bench, bullpen
MAR 07, 2013 3:04p ET
As manager Fredi Gonzalez makes his way through spring training with his new-look lineup, formidable rotation and top-of-the-line bullpen, the few remaining position battles have made themselves clear: third base and the final one or two bench spots. That's really it. The Braves look to be one of the more complete teams in baseball, which means there are fewer open spots available for some of the younger players.
Before bolting out of Orlando, Zach Dillard and Cory McCartney sat down to discuss spring training highlights, cold press boxes, the final bench spots, intriguing bullpen arms, the Water Skiing Hall of Fame and Dinosaur World. Here are a few of the key topics:
-- Could Joey Terdoslavich, Evan Gattis or Tyler Pastornicky claim a bench spot once Braves catcher Brian McCann returns from shoulder surgery?
-- Is the bullpen set with Christian Martinez, Luis Avilan and Cory Gearrin setting up "O'Walventbrel", or could young arms like Alex Wood or J.R. Graham hear their names called sometime in 2013?
-- Who claimed the FOX Sports South putt-putt title?
-- After seeing the spring training homes of the Mets, the Yankees and the Braves, which Florida site left the best impression this time around?
