Falcons DT Babineaux downplays Saints' claims of Lofton incident

Saints linebacker Scott Shanle, who was inactive for the game, accused the Falcons of trash-talking with Lofton and interfering with Saints’ pregame drills, according to a Yahoo! Sports. According to the report, Shanle said that Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma, the prime suspect in the NFL’s “Bounty-gate” probe, went over to Falcons coaches to protest that what the Falcons players were doing was “classless,” Shanle said, but that Falcons coaches took no action.
On Tuesday, ESPN.com, citing an anonymous source, reported that Falcons head coach Mike Smith would not take action with Babineaux and linebacker Sean Weatherspoon, said to be the two main culprits in the incident. Weatherspoon, nursing an ankle injury, was ruled out for the game earlier in the week and did not play and, as a result, would not have suited up in his equipment during pregame drills.
“We (are) all friends with Curtis and, you know, guys messing around and I’m sure he was doing the same thing, too,” Babineaux told FOXSportsSouth.com. “It’s all about competing and having fun and it’s just friends out there competing against one another. You know how that is.”
