Cowboys close to signing Pro Bowl guard Waters

Six days before the 2013 NFL season-opener, there is a different look as the Cowboys' pursuit of the free-agent guard is back on.
Cowboys play-by-play man Brad Sham of 105.3 The Fan was the first to report the story, noting on Tuesday afternoon that a contract is "agreed" to and that Waters – away from football for the past year – might be ready to play in Week 2. Worth noting: Two years ago, Waters returned to football with the Patriots in early September and started every game all the way to the Super Bowl.
There are indications Waters was requesting a two-year deal from the Cowboys.
Waters, 36, has been a summer-long Dallas discussion item along with ex- Jets guard Brandon Moore. Last month, both players declined invitations to join a club with injury woes at the position. Probable starting left guard Ron Leary is hoping to be back for Sunday. Incumbent starter Nate Livings (knee) is on IR. Mackenzy Bernadeau will likely open Sunday at right guard. Doug Free, an experiment at guard, will be moving back to tackle... And Brian Waters, a Waxahachie native who grew up a Dallas fan and after leaving the University of North Texas had a Dallas tryout, looks like he’ll be moving to the Cowboys.
