With the excitement of the World Series in full swing, it's only fitting that it spills over into Halloween. Seven-year-old Keller native Liam Roybal has become an internet sensation by dressing up as Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington and subsequently earning the nickname "Little Wash."
With a shaved head, fake mustache and ranch-flavored sunflower seeds, video and pictures of Roybal quickly spread across the nation. Roybal's father came up with the idea to dress as Washington, and it didn't take long to put together, with Roybal already having a baseball uniform plus the necessary sunglasses
Now, Lil' Ron Washington will take his celebrity to the national stage.
The Texas Rangers have announced that Roybal will yell "Play Ball" before Sunday night's Game 4 in costume.
It's a perfect way to get the game started on Halloween.
The Texas Rangers also offered Roybal two tickets to the game.
During his press conference, Washington was asked about Roybal and his costume.
"It's very flattering," Washington said. "You know, the kid must love baseball and he must love energy. He must love character. And that's my personality."
After a turbulent pair of seasons in which his job security was called into question, Washington helped guide the Rangers to their first-ever World Series this season and in the process became one of the most popular men in Texas.
"It's nice that there could be someone that wants to imitate Ron Washington," Washington said. "I never in all my wildest dreams thought that. He might want to imitate some other star. I certainly don't consider myself a star. I'm just a baseball man. But it's nice that that young kid could watch a baseball game and want to be Ron Washington. That means a lot."
