In an interesting twist, the person who served as Oakland's special teams coach last year is Steve Hoffman. He's now available and has deep roots in the Cowboys organization and with both owner Jerry Jones and coach Jason Garrett.
DeCamillis' connection in Chicago is GM Phil Emery. They worked together in Atlanta, and now DeCamillis will work under new head coach Marc Trestman, hired by Emery Wednesday.
DeCamillis, 47, has been the Cowboys' special teams coach since 2009 and is among the many ongoing changes at Valley Ranch. The club has fired its running backs coach and its assistant strength coach, has replaced defensive coordinator Rob Ryan with Monte Kiffin, is anticipating a change at tight ends coach (a spot occupied by Jason Garrett's brother John) and is contemplating changes in play-calling duties presently held by Jason Garrett.
DeCamillis, the son-in-law of former NFL head coach Dan Reeves, was injured in the May 2009 storms that caused the Cowboys' indoor practice facility to collapse. He reportedly won a $9.5 million settlement as a result of the accident.
