The work will include field improvements, upgrades to the sound system and bleachers as well as the additions of field houses for both the baseball and softball teams.
Clay Gould Ballpark, home of the baseball team, was built in 1974 and last underwent renovation in 2003. Allan Saxe Field, where the softball team plays, was renovated in 1993.
Neither of the fields has an on-site locker room or training facilities, forcing the student-athletes to change, shower and get treatment at Maverick Stadium.
Construction is expected to beginning following the spring 2014 seasons for both teams.
"This is a pivotal year for UT Arlington athletics as we move to the Sun Belt Conference and compete with a new cohort of like-minded universities," UTA athletic director Jim Baker said. "World-class facilities allow our student-athletes to be their best, both on and off the fields."
UTA added College Park Center, the new home of the basketball and volleyball teams, late in the 2011-12 basketball season.
