Carlos Sainz Jr. has emerged as a possible candidate for Caterham, thanks to the Formula One team’s relationship with Red Bull, and a deal has been discussed for the Spaniard to race for the team this season.

Sainz Jr., his father and Helmut Marko were seen paying a visit to the Caterham motorhome during the course of this past weekend.

Renault 3.5 frontrunner Will Stevens will drive for Caterham at the Silverstone test immediately after the British GP.

Stevens, who drove at the corresponding event last year, is Caterham’s simulator driver, and the test will give him the chance to get a proper feel the real car.

American F1 fans will have good reason to get to Montreal early on Friday as Alexander Rossi will be out on track for Caterham in FP1.

The GP2 star will also be in action in Austin later in the season.

“FP1 in Montreal will be my first drive of the year in the 2014 F1 car,” said Rossi. “But after the amount of laps I’ve done in the sim with CT05 I’m already pretty familiar with how it’ll be inside the cockpit.

The Caterham Group has moved to address rumors that it is for sale – while conceding that fresh investment would be welcome.

Gene Haas has been linked with a potential purchase of the F1 subsidiary.

F1 could axe Friday morning practice sessions next year, as teams consider how to cut costs in the absence of a mandatory budget cap.

Although keenly supported by the small teams, and championed by FIA president Jean Todt, the 2015 budget cap was vetoed by the powerful ‘Strategy Group’ teams including grandees Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes.
