Sunday’s European F3 Open race at Spa-Francorchamps was red-flagged on Lap 1 when a multi-car incident sent Nicolas Pohler’s car flipping through the air.
The mayhem started as the field raced through the Les Combes chicane. Vicky Piria and Santiago Urrutia were battling for fifth place when Urrutia lost control and overturned his car, immediately bringing out the safety car.
Drivers at the front of the pack began to slow for the safety car, but those running mid-pack did not, resulting in a massive pileup at Pouhon. At least 10 cars were involved, including Pohler’s destroyed DAV Racing entry.
Fortunately, all drivers escaped without injury.
