Kevin Magnussen and McLaren were fastest on the second day in Bahrain today as the teams gradually began to pick up the pace.
However, they are still far from the sort of lap times they are likely to achieve in full qualifying form come April.
Kevin Magnussen made a great start to his official F1 career by topping the times for McLaren in Jerez
Once again it was a day of mixed fortunes for the teams, with Red Bull enduring another disaster while others successfully logged a lot of laps. Daniel Ricciardo completed only three laps in the RB10, without actually recording a time, before his team gave up for the day.
Max Chilton will return to Marussia next season, the team confirmed Saturday at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham, UK.
The 22-year-old Briton will race alongside Frenchmen Jules Bianchi once again – making Marussia only the second team to retain its same driver pairing from the 2013 season. They join Mercedes, who welcome back Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.
