After the first outing for the riders at Valencia in FP1, it was standings leader Marc Marquez who set the pace by a 0.018s margin, with and just behind him on the timesheet.

At the start of the GP Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana weekend, which will see either Marquez or his Yamaha Factory Racing rival Lorenzo crowned as 2013 MotoGP champion, it was the former who took the advantage over the latter late in the session, in sunny, dry conditions.

Marquez’ Repsol Honda teammate Pedrosa could have a big shout in the destiny of the title on Sunday and he was just 0.024s behind the pace man on the timesheet.

Also in the top five were rookie Bradley Smith on the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 machine and his factory colleague – both of them over half a second down on P1.

The top 10 also featured Alvaro Bautista (GO&FUN Honda Gresini), Cal Crutchlow (Monster Yamaha Tech 3), Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda) and Ducati Team pair Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso.
