Marc Marquez made the Grand Prix of the Americas look like a breezy Sunday ride.

The reigning MotoGP World Champion from Spain cruised to his second win of the season, defending his title in the race where he claimed his first career victory.

And the 21-year-old did it with ease, starting from pole position and leading the entire way.

Jorge Lorenzo is under illusions about his chances of opening his MotoGP World Championship account with a win in today’s Grand Prix of The Americas.

A rare, but costly, first lap error at the opening race in Qatar has the hardcore Spanish racer on zero points and already scrambling to stay in the title chase against main rival Marc Marquez.

The dark clouds looming over the Circuits of The Americas today may look like a small ray of hope for the bulk of the MotoGP field, at least compared to the prospect of Marc Marquez riding off into the sunset.

Marquez has been in imperious form this weekend at the circuit he scored his first-ever MotoGP victory one year ago. Repsol Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa may still hold realistic hopes of overcoming Marquez, but the rest of the top men have lowered their sights with a podium result considered about the best they can hope for… unless something unusual happens.

Grand Prix veteran Dani Pedrosa made full use of his trademark precision to throw down a blistering 2:03.062 qualifying lap on Saturday afternoon at the Circuit of The Americas.

Meanwhile, his 21-year-old Repsol Honda teammate, Marc Marquez, was decidedly less untidy in the session; he slid and bucked his way around to an even faster 2:02.773 to secure pole position and further lower his circuit lap record.

MotoGP qualifying at the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas saw Marc Marquez clinch pole with a new record lap of COTA (2:02.886), with Dani Pedrosa and Stefan Bradl joining him on the front row.

Marquez is quick wherever he rides but he appears to specifically enjoy the state-of-the-art Austin track where round two of the season is taking place and he secured his 11th premier class pole position by 0.289s from Repsol Honda teammate Pedrosa – having dominated all weekend so far.
