Toro Rosso technical director James Key has questioned whether the distinctive ‘twin-prong’ nose seen on the Lotus E22 is within the spirit what was intended by the rules. He acknowledged that it appears to have been accepted as legal by the FIA.

“The Lotus nose needs clarification, but it’s a very clever idea,” he said. “The question really is, is it within the spirit? We’ll see. It’s really down to the FIA and Lotus to discuss that obviously. If they run it, then it’s passed the impact test, and they’re happy.”

Edwards and Herrin are two of only three U.S. riders competing in the World Championship this year – the other being Nicky Hayden. The colder than normal temperatures and bone-chilling wind kept Edwards from doing some scheduled COTA track laps.

FIA president and former Ferrari boss Jean Todt has returned to the Grenoble hospital bedside of his friend Michael Schumacher.

The seven-time world champion has been in a coma for almost a full month, raising doubts he will ever recover from his late December skiing accident.

Blick newspaper reports that journalists, particularly those in Germany, have been warned away from that sort of speculation with a letter from lawyers representing the great German’s family.
