News from the FIA International Court of Appeal yesterday proved bittersweet for Nissan. After taking third place at the Le Mans 24 Hours in June, Nissan Partner Team, G-Drive Racing, was disqualified from the results for a breach of article 6.5.1 of the Technical Regulations. The team appealed against this decision but it was rejected and the team’s exclusion stands.
A 1925 Rolls-Royce Phantom Sports Tourer complete with a double-barreled, high-caliber Howdah pistol, mountable Lantaka swivel cannon and a trailer-mounted .450-caliber, hand-cranked machine gun, is set to cross the block at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Las Vegas on Sept. 28 … if it gets through security.
The custom-built, one-off “Tiger Car” was built for Umed Singh II, Maharaja of Kotah, to carry heads of state and aristocratic hunting parties across his property in search of Bengal tigers, elephants and other big game.
“The Maharaja is a magnificent example of a one-off custom machine built for royalty,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “It’s an exciting car with an even more incredible history, and we can’t wait to see the magic it inspires when crossing the block at our sixth-annual Las Vegas Auction.”
The car, last offered but not sold at auction in 2011 by an American collector, combines signature Rolls-Royce comfort and styling with the extravagance one would expect from royalty – alligator-skin seats and a nickel-plated snake horn, along with the stopping power of a small military unit. In addition to the big guns, the car also carries a heavy rack filled with shotguns, big-game rifles and bird guns.
Live Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction coverage from Las Vegas is available Sept. 26-28 across the FOX family of networks, including newly launched FOX Sports 1 & FOX Sports 2, as well as the National Geographic Channel.
