F1: No Place For Kovalainen As Caterham Takes Pay Drivers

Heikki Kovalainen is without a vehicle after Caterham opted not to take him aboard for this season.

The team had planned to give him a race seat in 2014 after indicating that it did not want to rely on pay drivers, which is why he was a FP1 regular last year.

Caterham has finally confirmed that Kamui Kobayashi will join Marcus Ericsson this year, as predicted here back on Dec. 20.

Alexander Rossi retains his role as a test driver and will also race in GP2, and he’s joined in the reserve role by Dutchman Robin Frijns, who is rebuilding his career with new management after being dropped by Sauber.

Juan Pablo Montoya is returning to IndyCar racing and at age 38 is determined to prove he can still be a force in open-wheeler racing.

The 2000 Indianapolis 500 champion and ex-Formula 1 driver has joined a new but formidable team, and he’s spent most of the offseason getting acclimated to his new surroundings.

“I do feel like a rookie,” Montoya said this week after IndyCar drivers were given their annual physicals in Indianapolis. “It’s hard to know how well up to speed I am, because I’ve been running by myself.”

It’s a dawn of a new era for sports car racing, as the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship kicks off this weekend on the famed Florida high banks for the 52nd annual Rolex 24 at Daytona.

To gear up for the history-making event, FOX Sports SPEED previews the twice-around-the-clock endurance classic with a team-by-team look at the 67 cars that are set to compete in the season-opening round.
First up is a preview of the highly competitive GT Daytona (GTD) class.
