Marc Marquez has impressively collected his sixth pole position of the 2013 MotoGP season, beating Casey Stoner’s Misano lap record in the process. The championship leader will start alongside Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi, with teammate Dani Pedrosa coming from fourth place on the grid.
As qualifying drew to a close at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, it looked as though Marquez had beaten Lorenzo by just 24 thousandths of a second. The Repsol Honda Team man (despite having suffered an accident during the preceding fourth practice session) then delivered a crushing blow in the form of 1’32.915, establishing the new qualifying record and sealing his second consecutive pole by over half a second. Lorenzo was comfortably second ahead of Yamaha Factory Racing partner Rossi, both now running with seamless shifter gearboxes for the first time. In fourth spot, Honda’s Pedrosa – on pole last year – was clearly frustrated for the duration of the day and was eight tenths of a second off the pole position time.

Marc Marquez continued to top the timesheets as the qualifying running order was determined at Misano on Saturday morning. The championship leader led the way from title rivals Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo, but Cal Crutchlow was unable to make the overall top ten and will therefore run in Q1 for the first time.
Atop the timesheets, Marquez broke into the 1’33s for the first time, courtesy of his leading effort of 1’33.975. Repsol Honda Team colleague Pedrosa was one tenth of a second slower before crashing at Rio corner two minutes before the end of the session, whereas Yamaha Factory Racing’s Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi finished third and fourth as they continued to adapt to their new seamless shift gearbox.

INDYCAR announced today that it will not return to Baltimore in 2014.
“After a successful visit to Baltimore, which included record attendance, we are disappointed that our schedules will not align to host an event in 2014,” said Mark Miles, chief executive officer, Hulman & Co., the parent company of INDYCAR. ”This was simply a matter of trying to find the best date that worked for all parties, since Labor Day weekend was not an option in 2014. We are thankful to the city of Baltimore, Race On and Andretti Sports Marketing for their support and enthusiasm for the event over the years.”
Miles added: “We continue to finalize our 2014 schedule and anticipate announcing it prior to the end of our 2013 season.”
