Luca di Montezemolo, one of the most powerful figures in Formula 1, thinks the highly-controversial new double points rule might live a short life.

Reaction to the plan for double points in Abu Dhabi next year, to keep the championship alive throughout the season, has been generally negative.

And Montezemolo, the Ferrari president with an unique veto over key Formula 1 decisions, warned: “I’m not a fan of the double points.

Eleven IndyCar Series drivers representing seven teams got a jump on the 2014 season with a two-day test Dec. 18-19 at Sebring International Raceway.

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, Andretti Autosport, Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing, A.J. Foyt Racing, Dale Coyne Racing and Ed Carpenter Racing tested on the track as teams continued their 2014 preparations.

Esteban Gutierrez will remain with Sauber for the 2014 Formula 1 season, the team has confirmed.

The 22-year-old Mexican will partner with Adrian Sutil, whose signing was confirmed earlier this week.

The announcement comes just days after FOXSports.com’s Adam Cooper reported the team had a “change of heart” and wanted to retain Gutierrez.

2013 MotoGP Champion Marc Marquez, as every year, will spend the holidays surrounded by his family in his native Cervera in Spain, trying to rest between his multiple off-track events with his brother, training partner and Moto3 rider Alex Marquez.
