Mercedes drivers Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton led the way in the first practice session for the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Rosberg set his fastest lap of 1:24.781 early in the damp 90-minute session and as conditions worsened, no driver was able to bump the German from the top spot. Hamilton finished the session 0.449 seconds off the pace in second.

Four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel’s late surge bumped him into third, pushing Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso down into fourth and fifth, respectively. Vettel’s Red Bull teammate, Mark Webber, posted the sixth-quickest time.

Sergio Perez says his prospects for 2014 are looking up – and he says that he has a “95 percent” chance of having a F1 seat next year.

Like everyone else, Perez has been linked with Sauber, Force India and Lotus. The Swiss team would appear to be the main possibility at the moment, with Carlos Slim discussing the possibility of ‘Checo’ teaming up with Esteban Gutierrez – although the alternative scenario is that the two drivers are in effect fighting for the same backing.
