Nicky Hayden admits that he is not happy with the results he has had during his stint with Ducati, and is ready for a fresh start with Power Electronics Aspar next season.

Since his move to Ducati in 2009, the American has only scored three podium finishes and has failed to finish better than seventh in the championship standings.

“If I’m completely honest, I look back and don’t say it with regrets, but I can’t really be happy about the five years,” Hayden said in a sit-down interview with Gavin Emmett. “Results wise, it just wasn’t enough. That’s bitter. There will definitely be a little bitter taste in my mouth that we couldn’t accomplish more, especially in the last year or two.”

Fernando Alonso has gone for a hospital checkup after bouncing over the curbs while battling with Jean-Eric Vergne in Abu Dhabi.

The jolt was hard enough to set off the FIA-mandated g-force alarm, which means a compulsory medical checkup for the driver.

Alonso admitted afterwards that he felt some back pain, and after a check at the circuit medical center, he went for further investigations at the local hospital.

World champion Sebastian Vettel is not finished with Formula One’s record books just yet.

His dominant win in Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was his seventh in a row — matching Michael Schumacher’s feat in 2004 — and 11th of the season that leaves him 130 points clear of his nearest rival.

At 26, the Red Bull driver is the youngest four-time F1 champion and by the end of November he could have matched two more records.

Three unquestionable talents in their own rights. Luis Salom, Maverick Viñales and Alex Rins have ensured an extremely closely-fought Moto3 title battle in 2013. Curiously, each one will have arrived at next weekend’s Valencia title-decider in their own imitable way.

The plot:

Something that happens rarely in the World Championship. Three riders, three completely different styles and three different methods of overcoming adversity. So it’s three riders, five points between them and one race to go.

Kimi Raikkonen has been excluded from qualifying after his car failed a floor deflection test in Abu Dhabi. He will be allowed to start from the back of the grid.

In Hungary, a similar thing happened with Romain Grosjean, but the stewards accepted that the floor was damaged.

However, this time the circumstances were different — in effect, the stewards noted it was not the first time it had happened and the issue should have been addressed — and thus the car was deemed to have failed to comply with the regulations.
