Toyota will start Saturday’s Six Hours of Shanghai from the pole position as it searches for back-to-back victories in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Nicolas Lapierre and Alex Wurz, winners last time out in the rain-shortened Fuji round, combined for a four-lap average of 1:48.013 in their No. 7 Toyota TS030 Hybrid in qualifying Friday in China.

After the first outing for the MotoGP riders at Valencia in FP1, it was standings leader Marc Marquez who set the pace by a 0.018s margin, with Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa just behind him on the timesheet.

At the start of the GP Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana weekend, which will see either Marquez or his Yamaha Factory Racing rival Lorenzo crowned as 2013 MotoGP champion, it was the former who took the advantage over the latter late in the session, in sunny, dry conditions.
