It will be an all-family affair at Wayne Taylor Racing next year, as Ricky and Jordan Taylor will join forces in their father’s Corvette DP in the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.

Following an impressive first full season in prototype competition that delivered five wins en route to the DP championship, 22-year-old Jordan will remain at the wheel of the Dallara-chassied entry, teamed with older brother Ricky, who returns to WTR after a one-year stint with Spirit of Daytona Racing.

An upbeat Fernando Alonso says Ferrari managed to get the maximum out of his car this season, despite Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel racing away toward the drivers’ title.

“This season was fantastic for me again,” Alonso said Saturday after managing just eighth in qualifying for the Indian Grand Prix. “If I look at the classification, to have 107 points, my teammate (Felipe Massa) having a very good season like this one at 90 points, I think we struck the maximum from the car we have.”

World title aspirant Marc Marquez will seek his place in history by going for a win in the Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi.

Fearless and fast Marquez says his first instinct is put the title beyond the reach of his main rival Jorge Lorenzo at the Twin Ring Circuit on Sunday.

It is a race strategy that has taken the Spanish tyro to the brink of history. He is just a handful of points away from becoming the youngest ever winner of the MotoGP crown and the first rookie winner since Kenny Roberts in 1978.

Nicky Hayden made the most of Saturday’s 75-minute qualifying session at a damp Twin Ring Motegi, as the American rider captured his first front row start since Jerez in 2012.

Hayden held the provisional pole for much of the final 30 minutes, but his best time of 1:54.539 would only be good enough for third. Pole winner Jorge Lorenzo and championship leader Marc Marquez were the only riders to outpace the 2006 MotoGP World Champion.

Although Hayden was pleased with third, he admitted to being bitter over failing to nab the pole, which would have been his first since Portugal in 2007.
