Christmas time is often the period when family photo albums are opened to re-live some special past moments. Well, the same happens at motogp.com HQ, where we found a couple of very similar pictures from two of our current World Champions.

Pol Espargaro took his first title this year in the Moto2 class, whilst Marc Marquez made it three, adding the premier-class crown to his 125cc and Moto2 titles from years before. Yet looking back to 2004 it would have been tough to predict the future success of the pair, as they squared up in the national Catalunya 125cc Championship, as pictured.

In that year it was Espargaro who took the title, with Marquez finishing second, with Marquez repaying the favour in the 2012 Moto2 championship.

To find out more about both Marquez’s and Espargaro’s careers and results, check out their profiles on Motogp.com.

5.Wayne Taylor Racing: It often seemed as though Wayne Taylor Racing was in a class of its own this year. While the driving combination of Max Angelelli and Jordan Taylor netted five victories and the 2013 DP drivers’ championship, the Simon Hodgson-led organization had its Dallara-chassied Corvette DP dialed in, nearly at every round, showing the strength of the package and team throughout the final year of the Rolex Series.

4.Black Falcon: The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 team shined in the key international endurance races this year, with overall victories in the 24 Hours of Dubai, Nurburgring 24 and Gulf 12 Hours. A regular front-runner in the Blancpain Endurance Series and VLN, the German outfit, managed by Sean Paul Breslin, has quickly established itself as one of the top GT endurance teams in the business.
