Cal Crutchlow was left downcast following Sunday’s Aragón Grand Prix, having finished sixth from seventh on the grid at the end of a frustrating weekend.

After the 23-lap encounter which was staged over a total of almost 117 kilometers, Crutchlow stressed that both he and teammate Bradley Smith were losing much ground at MotorLand Aragón, particularly down the kilometer-long back straight.

Last week’s announcement that CORE autosport would become the operational partner for Porsche’s new factory program in the Tudor United SportsCar Championship may have turned some heads, but for team owner Jon Bennett and team manager Morgan Brady, it was the culmination of a long-term goal fulfilled in an surprisingly short period of time.

Less than four years ago, the idea of going racing in the American Le Mans Series was still a dream for Bennett, who assembled a team as an extension to his manufacturing business, Composite Resources, in 2010. Brady, a former Atlantic engineer who had been part of the ill-fated US F1 project, was one of his first hires, turning down an offer to work for Penske Racing to instead lead efforts at the upstart CORE outfit.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is taking a different tack to bring fans to the track this May — a road race.

On Thursday, the speedway’s board of directors voted to add a second IndyCar race in May at the historic Brickyard. It’s the first time IndyCar drivers will compete on something other than Indy’s 2.5-mile oval, and it’s the first time they’ll prepare for two races in one season at the speedway. The road race is scheduled for the weekend of May 10-11, two weeks ahead of the series’ marquee event, the Indianapolis 500. Finals details have not yet been worked out.
