F1 Team Bosses Lament Coming Cost Increases

Formula One team bosses say the rapidly escalating costs of the sport — set to climb even higher next season — mean there is something “fundamentally wrong” with the sport which must be corrected.

The switch to V6 turbo engines next season, along with the re-introduction of in-season testing, means already financially-stretched teams will face a significant increase in costs.

Decision Nearing On Road Race At Indianapolis

A May road race at Indianapolis could become reality as early as next week.

With time running short to finish the 2014 schedule, Mark Miles, the CEO of IndyCar’s parent company, Hulman & Co., said he expects the board to vote before the end of September. Series officials are hoping to release next season’s schedule before this season’s final race, Oct. 19 at Fontana, Calif.

After the British Grand Prix, sole tire supplier Pirelli changed the construction of the tires in order to avoid future delaminating issues. The new construction was similar to 2012’s Kevlar designed belt but incorporated 2013’s tread — a hybrid of sorts. The Kevlar-belted tires ran 10 degrees centigrade lower than the initial 2013 steel-belted tires.

Lewis Hamilton says he was surprised to find he was only fifth in the Singapore GP, having initially thought that he’d made it up to third-place.

Hamilton was one of four leading cars not to pit under the safety car, and thus dropped back when he made a later stop under green. He then followed Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg past cars that were struggling on older tires, although Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen remained out of reach.
