The Carlisle Chrysler Nationals has been the premier all Mopar-themed event in the world since its inception in 1991. Fast forward to 2014 and this year’s event promises to once again be the cream of the crop within automotive circles. As the only July event on the Carlisle Events schedule this year, the weekend of July 11-13 hosts special guests, displays, seminars and the cars.

As has been the case for many years, the event unofficially launches on Thursday with a kick-off party and cruise in at Cumberland Valley Motors in nearby Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.  The free kick-off, presented by the Mopar Rebellion Car Club, draws upwards of 400+ cars and provides yet another great outlet for Mopar enthusiasts to congregate, talk shop and catch up on happenings since last year’s show.  With this serving as a popular appetizer, the main course Friday, Saturday and Sunday will ultimately leave enthusiasts wanting more by week’s end.

Having also gone quickest in FP1, Espargaro lapped in 1:22.041 on the NGM Forward Racing ‘Open’ Forward Yamaha on a softer option rear at the end of the FP2 session. The riders kept their concentration despite some light rainfall 20 minutes from the end of the afternoon run.

World Champion Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) ended the session 0.117s behind compatriot Espargaro, having had a big crash at Turn 3 earlier in the day in FP1.

Valentino Rossi is travelling to the Sachsenring in a distinctly relaxed fashion, having last week inked a new two-year contract with Movistar Yamaha MotoGP which keeps the nine-time World Champion with the team until at least the end of 2016.

It was on Wednesday after the previous race at Assen that the new Rossi-Yamaha contract was formally announced, with ‘The Doctor’ now able to fully concentrate on the eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland.
