Seven generations later and the 2014 Porsche 911 still retains its same iconic look that it had in the 1960s. (Photo courtesy Porsche)

For a full half century now, the Porsche 911 has defined what a pure, no compromises sports car can, and more importantly, should be.

And during the last 50 years, the 911 has stayed laser-focused and true to Porsche’s vision of a sports car through countless automotive trends, market changes and fads.

If you bought a 911 new in 1964 and a 2014 model today, you would instantly understand the connection, how what the German automaker created way back when has evolved into what it is today. The new 911, now in its seventh generation, is every bit as targeted today as it was in ’64. And that’s a very good thing indeed.

After the satisfaction of Assen, where Andrea Dovizioso finished second, the Ducati Team now arrives in Germany for the ninth round of the 2014 MotoGP World Championship, which takes place this weekend at the Sachsenring circuit.

The Sachsenring is one of the shortest and slowest circuits on the calendar, but it is by no means an easy track. Its counter-clockwise layout contains several truly difficult curves, as well as a number of ups and downs.

Introduction:

First held in 1923, the 24 Hours of Le Mans is one the greatest annual sports events. However, unlike most other events, Le Mans’ rich heritage can actually be celebrated by bringing the protagonists, the cars, back to the track.

Since 2002, this is done biennially with the Le Mans Classic. This twice-around-the-clock event features cars from the 1920s all the way through the early 1980s, spread over six grids.
