INDIANAPOLIS – Call this year the “Bizarro World” of the Indianapolis 500.

Follow closely:

Bump Day is now on the first day of qualifications, instead of the second, and Pole Day is on Sunday and not Saturday.

It’s the latest attempt to generate interest in Indianapolis 500 Qualifying – an event that used to draw race day-sized crowds to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway just two or three decades ago.

As the pressure builds for Marc Marquez to again ride into the record books, the young Spaniard is staying calm, and refuting any suggestion that he should slow down.

Pramac Racing’s Andrea Iannone showed some good pace on Friday at Le Mans to finish second overall after two practice sessions.

The Italian rider has had a strong start to his second MotoGP™ campaign with three top ten finishes, before crashing out in Jerez. This weekend he is looking to bounce back from the disappointment of that DNF in the south of Spain and he showed his determination on Friday as he trailed pace setter Marc Marquez by just 0.007s in FP2.

INDIANAPOLIS – At one time the Indianapolis 500 was the pinnacle form of racing that race drivers in the United States Auto Club (USAC) aspired to achieve. Over the last three decades, however, the sport moved away from the American grassroots form of racing such as USAC Midgets, Sprints and Silver Crown to road racers from Europe and South America.

Bryan Clauson hopes to bring USAC back to the Indy 500, beginning next season, when the three-time USAC National Driver’s Champion was announced as the driver for Jonathan Byrd’s Racing in 2015.
