Pastor Maldonado and Lotus set the fastest time on the second and final day of the Barcelona test, but the big story of the day was the appearance of the ‘noise trumpet’ on the back of the Mercedes. Unfortunately it’s a case of back to the drawing board as the ungainly looking device failed to have much of an impact.

After his frustrating race weekend Maldonado used Pirelli’s supersoft tires to set his time and, more importantly, he completed 102 laps and finally had a chance to get to grips with the E22.

The new Mercedes GP ‘megaphone’ system was a talking point heading into the Spanish GP weekend, as the team announced that it would be testing the new device in order to improve the ‘sound’ of Formula 1.

However, many in the paddock and on Twitter seemed unimpressed with the look and sound of the new device, including Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg.

The “unbelievable” Marc Marquez is the man Honda could not say no to. Simple as that.

Confirmation that Marquez has agreed a two year contract extension, until the end of 2016, with the Honda Racing Corporation comes as no surprise.
