We may see a new car receive the world’s most expensive title at this year’s The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering event on August 15, as a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO is going under the hammer. Another 250 GTO sold for a staggering $52 million just last year, and the car coming up for sale next month could see that figure surpassed given the current mania in classic cars—only last weekend a 1954 Ferrari 375-Plus sold for $18.3 million, and the 250 GTO is a much, much more desirable vehicle in the world of collectors.

The 250 GTO coming up for sale is the car with chassis #3851 GT. It was the 19th 250 GTO to be built, out of a 39-car run, and it has been in the one family’s care for no fewer than 49 years from 1965 until now. It will be sold by auction house Bonhams — at no reserve.

Want to buy an American car? Better get one while they last.

Only 10 vehicles qualified this year for the annual American-Made Index from Cars.com, and just three of them are from domestic brands.

The Ford F-150 pickup took the top spot for the second year in a row, while the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray came in seventh and the Detroit-built Dodge SRT Viper rounded out the list in tenth.

Formula 1 championship leader Nico Rosberg claimed pole position for the British Grand Prix on Saturday, capitalizing on a critical error of judgment by his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton on the last lap of a shock-filled and rain-hit qualifying session.

The German secured pole by persevering on his final lap in drying conditions as Hamilton — who had the fastest time up to that point — aborted his lap and pulled into the pits, believing that the his time could not be bettered.

Alex Tagliani has been suspended for one race and placed on probation for an additional TUDOR United SportsCar Championship round following an accident in practice for last weekend’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.

The veteran open-wheel and sports car driver spun his No. 08 RSR Racing Oreca FLM09 in Saturday’s second practice session and re-entered the track in Turn 10 in front of an oncoming Chris Miller in the No. 85 JDC-Miller Motorsports car.
