James Hinchcliffe’s tough IndyCar start is getting more clouded.

E.J. Viso replaced the injured Canadian on Sunday in the opening practice for the Indianapolis 500 and it’s still unclear when the popular Hinchcliffe will turn his first laps on the famed 2.5-mile oval.

Lewis Hamilton finally eased into the lead of the 2014 Formula 1 World Championship with his fourth straight victory of the season in Spain.

Hamilton didn’t have it easy, as he had to work hard to stay clear of Nico Rosberg in the closing laps, when the latter was on the more competitive medium tire and Lewis was on the hard. He also wasn’t entirely happy with the balance of car, which led to some terse radio traffic with his engineer.

Roger Penske’s team got off to a fast start on a slow day at Indianapolis.

Less than 24 hours after working feverishly to convert three cars from road-course setups to oval setups, the winningest owner in Indianapolis 500 swept the top three spots on the first day of practice Sunday.

Australia’s Will Power finished with a fast lap of 223.057 mph, Colombia’s Juan Pablo Montoya was second at 222.502 and Brazil’s Helio Castroneves was third at 222.373. Only three other drivers topped 222.

Red Bull Racing underlined its position as the team pursuing Mercedes as Daniel Ricciardo led the chase with his third place in Barcelona.

Even better news for the team was that Sebastian Vettel drove a superb race from 15th to fourth, indicating that he finally feels at home in the RB10.

Ferrari drivers and staff have gathered to send a message of hope to Michael Schumacher and commemorate his first Ferrari Formula One victory at the Spanish Grand Prix with the team he led to five world championships.

Drivers Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen flanked new team principal Marco Mattiacci among about a hundred team members in front of a sign saying “Remembering your first win with us (hash)forzamichael.”
