Fresh off back-to-back Monster Energy Supercross victories, Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart enters Saturday night’s race at The Georgia Dome as the fastest qualifier in the 450SX Class.

Stewart topped both timed qualifying practices, with his fastest lap of 52.436 coming midway through the second and final session. He was more than two-tenths of a second quicker than JGRMX’s Justin Brayton and fellow Suzuki rider Broc Tickle.

Sylvain Guintoli of France produced the fastest-ever qualifying time at the Phillip Island circuit to claim pole position for Sunday’s opening race of the Superbike World Championship.

Guintoli steered his Aprilia around the 4.445-kilometer circuit in 1 minute, 30.038 seconds, beating the previous best lap of 1 minute, 30.234 seconds, set by Carlos Checa last year.

Pirelli Formula One  boss Paul Hembery says that the teams made good progress with its latest tires in Bahrain this week, and the conclusion is that they are more consistent and durable than last year.

Pirelli admits that it has taken a conservative route, but Hembery repeated that the company is willing to make changes if necessary.

As expected Felipe Nasr has been confirmed as the Williams reserve driver for 2014, and the Brazilian had his first experience of the new car in Bahrain today.

Nasr won the 2011 British F3 title and has raced in GP2 for the past two seasons. He also finished third in the 2012 Daytona 24 Hours. He will run in five Friday FP1 sessions.
