Sebastian Vettel’s day ended with the four-time defending Formula One champion hitching a ride on a scooter after his Red Bull puttered out.

Lewis Hamilton finished Friday’s opening day of practice at the Spanish Grand Prix with the top times from both training sessions. The British driver is looking to add to his three poles positions and hat trick of wins after four races this season.

Mercedes teammate and F1 leader Nico Rosberg set the afternoon’s second best time after his crew fixed a cooling issue.

Late Paying Teams Could Cause Crisis, Says Renault F1 Boss

Renault Sport F1 boss Jean-Michel Jalinier says that the manufacturer’s 2014 program could be compromised by teams being late with payments.

He admitted that the situation could become critical within the next few weeks – and confirmed that the ultimate sanction could be to cease supply.

Fernando Alonso could not resist a mischievous joke on Thursday when asked about teammate Kimi Raikkonen’s struggles so far in 2014.

Raikkonen has struggled notably at Ferrari since returning to his 2007 title-winning team, but for the moment the high-pressure Maranello marque is backing him.

The Verizon IndyCar Series took to the newly configured road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for its first two practice sessions for the Grand Prix of Indianapolis.

Scott Dixon put on the fastest time of the day during second practice, while Sebastian Bourdais was unable to improve on his practice one time and fell to third on the charts.

Coming unto the fifth round of 2014 Formula 1 season at Barcelona, one has to wonder if Alonso can pull off the same sort of victory as he did at this circuit one year ago.
