Luca di Montezemolo agreed behind closed doors that the controversial ‘double points’ innovation is necessary for Formula One.

That is the claim of F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone, despite Ferrari president Montezemolo having claimed on record that he is opposed to the unpopular idea.

Dani Pedrosa was content following the first day of this week’s Sepang MotoGP test, finishing third quickest on Tuesday afternoon.

The 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix winner ended proceedings inside the top three, jumping ahead of Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo in the dying minutes of the session as Repsol Honda Team partner Marc Marquez remained quickest.

Reigning World Champion Marc Marquez topped the first day of MotoGP preseason testing at Sepang in Malaysia.

The 20-year-old Repsol Honda star traded first place with Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi for much of the morning session, but as track temperatures dropped, so too did Marquez’s lap times. In the closing stages, Marquez posted  2:00.286 to firmly claim fast-lap honors.

Felipe Massa has tipped his former Ferrari teammate to dominate Kimi Raikkonen at the great Italian team in 2014.

Maranello marque Ferrari replaced the long-serving Brazilian with Finn Raikkonen, its 2007 world champion, over the winter, with Massa having to move to the once-great British team Williams.
