NGT Motorsport withdraws from TUDOR Championship

NGT Motorsport announced Tuesday that it has withdrawn from the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship with immediate effect.

The Florida-based team, which has fielded the MOMO-sponsored No. 30 Porsche 911 GT America in the first five rounds of the championship, will not take part in the remainder of the season except for the Circuit of The Americas race in September.

OAK Racing broke through to score its first TUDOR United SportsCar Championship pole, following a blistering lap set by Alex Brundle in qualifying for Sunday’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.

The 23-year-old second-generation driver reeled off an impressive 1:37.902 time in his Morgan-Nissan, outpacing the competition by seven-tenths. He was the only driver to break the 1:37 barrier.

Richard Westbrook saved the best for last, as the Spirit of Daytona driver claimed a crucial pole position for Saturday’s Chevrolet Sports Car Classic.

Westbrook took his No. 90 Corvette DP to the top spot with less than three minutes on the clock, but it looked like he was beaten when the No. 1 Extreme Speed Motorsports HPD ARX-03b of Ryan Dalziel posted a 1:25.029 in the dying stages of the heated 15-minute session.

The futuristic-looking automobile is a very real machine in the sports car racing world, currently competing in the TUDOR United Sports Car Championship series.

Johannes van Overbeek captured the overall and Prototype class pole for Sunday’s Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix in his No. 2 Extreme Speed Motorsports HPD ARX-03b, in a thrilling battle with Richard Westbrook for the top spot.

Meanwhile Antonio Garcia took Corvette Racing to its second straight TUDOR United SportsCar Championship pole – after co-driver Jan Magnussen did so in Long Beach – in GT Le Mans.
